Birds Without Wings

This novel by Louis De Bernieres tells the tale of friends in a time of change. It explores the characters as people rather than as simple movers in a historical tableau. The main characters including Philothei, Ibrahim, Leyla, Mustafa, and others are members of a community that is being torn apart by political happenings in the larger community.

To me, being a part of a local community is always extremely important, it seems a fundamental part of living on our earth. This book, though perhaps not purposefully, espouses the ideal of community with those around you and explores how larger communities (sometimes called politics) can hold sway over smaller, but not completely.

I know you have all been missing my updates. Haven’t been reading like I usually do. Time to catch up!
